Following our previous communication regarding laboratory service throughout this Omicron outbreak, we have some updates for you.
As we are a critical service, staff who are close contacts can return to work once they’ve provided a negative RAT test, which will help reduce the impact from positive household members. We do however currently have some staffing shortages due to COVID, so you may experience delays with some testing, especially trace elements and some specialised biochemistry testing.
As expected the national courier network in the larger centres is still struggling to keep up with demand whilst managing a reduced workforce due to staff in isolation. Please be patient and expect delays with transport of samples to the laboratory, and consequently extended turn-around times for results. Because of persisting courier delays as well as COVID-related staff shortages, please consider ordering your consumable items well ahead of time, as well as holding a small amount of additional stock.
