General information about the disease:  Typically associated with sporadic bovine encephalomyelitis (SBE), polyarthritis and conjunctivitis in ruminants. Has been implicated in respiratory disease and reproductive diseases including abortion in sheep and cattle. There are reports of C. pecorum causing enteritis in sheep

Comparison with other related tests:  Cell culture, antigen detection and serology can be used but are of limited availability in New Zealand.
