Arefeh Ravanbakhsh

B.Sc (Dist.), DVM, MVetSc

Arefeh completed her bachelor of science in biological sciences at the University of Calgary in 2012 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Saskatchewan Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.

Following the completion of her DVM degree, Arefeh entered mixed animal practice. During her veterinary training as well as her time in practice Arefeh always enjoyed the “art” of clinical pathology and using her diagnostic skills, particularly in hematology and cytopathology, to tackle diagnostic challenges. She decided to further pursue her interest in clinical pathology by completing a combined Master’s degree and residency at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. As part of her Master’s degree she performed a research project looking at neutrophil function in canine cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Arefeh enjoys all aspects of clinical pathology, however, she has a particularly keen interest in the area of hemopathology and endocrinology. The most rewarding aspect of becoming a veterinary clinical pathologist for her has been helping veterinarians identify and diagnose disease processes in order to ultimately lead to best patient care and treatment.

Outside of work Arefeh enjoys long-distance running, hiking, playing soccer and volleyball, and spending quality time with family and friends.
