Dr Geoff Orbell

BSc., DipSci (Dist), BVSc (Dist), MVS (Hons), Diplomate ACVP, Registered Specialist Veterinary Anatomical Pathology

Geoff graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2000 from Massey University, after completing a postgraduate Science degree. His first two years in practice were spent at Manawatu Vets in Feilding as a production animal clinician, after which he spent another two years in mixed practice in a number of practices throughout England and Scotland.

In 2005 Geoff started a combined Residency and Masters of Veterinary Studies in Anatomic Pathology at Massey finishing in mid-2007. From here he was employed as an Instructor in Veterinary Pathology at Washington State University in Pullman, and also studied for the ACVP Board exams which he passed in 2008. Geoff then started as a fulltime veterinary pathologist with Awanui Veterinary in Melbourne where he also became competent in Clinical Pathology. After three years Geoff returned home in 2011 and worked as a pathologist with NZVP for 6 years before starting at Awanui Veterinary in Palmerston North in 2017. Geoff was registered as a Specialist in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology in Australia in 2010 and New Zealand in 2011.

Geoff enjoys both anatomic and clinical pathology and his client-focussed, practical approach is one of his strengths. He has gained expertise and local recognition for production animal pathology, herd health investigations, dermatopathology and oncologic pathology.

Outside of work his time is mostly spent with his family on their sheep and beef farm at Hiwinui. Given the chance, Geoff loves to dive, hunt, fish or brew all-grain beer.
