Dr Rob Fairley

BVSc, Diplomate ACVP, Registered Veterinary Specialist - Anatomic Pathology

Rob graduated from Massey in 1979 and spent the next three years in mixed practice at the Rotorua and District Veterinary Club. Inspired by Bob Jolly, Rob gravitated to pathology and in 1983 he joined the MAF Animal Health Laboratory network at Invermay and then moved to Ruakura.

In 1985 Rob obtained an instructor position in pathology at North Carolina State University and in 1987 passed the American College of Veterinary Pathologists certifying exam in pathology. From there Rob actively broadened his experience by taking positions at the University of California, Davis and at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Canada. After two years, Rob returned home to Ruakura. In 1998 the lure of academics in the USA was strong and he returned to the University of California at Davis primarily to teach the residents in pathology.

Since 2001, Rob has been in the Christchurch Gribbles Veterinary Pathology laboratory. He periodically returns to North America to teach pathology residents.

Rob has wide experience in both large and small animal diagnostics and has depth in the histological diagnosis of diseases of skin and considerable experience with pigs. His passion is teaching residents in pathology.

Socially, despite creaking joints, Rob still plays competitive squash. He enjoys a good Sauvignon Blanc.
