Dr Phil McKenna
BSc, Dip Wild Mgt, M.Phil., PhD
A graduate of Otago and Massey Universities, Phil is the network parasitologist for Gribbles Veterinary in New Zealand and is based at Palmerston North. Phil is also contracted by Biosecurity New Zealand as their Expert Parasitologist.
In his thirty-eight year career Phil has so far authored more than 90 publications in refereed journals and numerous other articles in conference proceedings, books and periodicals. As well as a specialised knowledge of parasitism generally, Phil has a particular interest in veterinary parasitology and is an associate member of the Sheep and Beef Cattle Society of the New Zealand Veterinary Association.
Phil is especially interested in the diagnosis of parasitism and has a singular interest in the detection and control of anthelmintic resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes of domestic livestock. Phil maintains a database of all helminth, protozoan and ectoparasites recorded in terrestrial and marine mammals, birds, lizards and frogs in New Zealand.
Personal interests include reading, fishing, gardening and simply spending time with his family.
