Dr Keith McSporran

Keith graduated from Massey University in 1972. After a short introduction to small animal practice in Auckland he returned to Massey to undertake a Ph.D. in reproductive physiology of the ewe. On completion of his Ph.D., he joined the Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture at Wallaceville where he was part of a multi-disciplinary team investigating chronic non-progressive pneumonia in sheep. He subsequently joined a mixed veterinary practice in the Bay of Islands.
In 1980 he joined the Whangarei Animal Health Laboratory as a trainee pathologist and worked there until the laboratory was relocated to Auckland in 1989. He moved to Auckland to manage and assist in the setting up of the Auckland Animal Health Laboratory. In 1998 he took up the position of Manager Research and Development with Bomac Laboratories Ltd.
After four and a half years, he returned to pathology, this time working for the privatised Auckland Animal Health Laboratory under the ownership of Gribbles Veterinary Pathology. Keith is a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in pathology and pharmacology.
Keith’s main interest is in all aspects of companion and production animal pathology. Keith is keen to see digital imagery used to bridge the gap between clinic and laboratory. Personal interests are digital photography and contemporary literature.
