Dr Bronwyn Smits
BSc BVMS (hons) DVSc Diplomate ACVP
Bronwyn graduated from Murdoch University in Western Australia in 1986, and then worked briefly in the Northern Territory in private practice before moving to Victoria's Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, based in Benalla. As the lucky recipient of a trainee position at the Lab, Bronwyn was exposed to a range of livestock and companion animal pathology cases and worked alongside several well-respected and highly motivating pathologists, many of who were overseas trained.
In 1989 Bronwyn left Australian shores for Canada where she commenced a three year postgraduate doctorate at the Ontario Veterinary College in the Pathology Department, under the supervision of Dr Ric Miller, a reproduction pathologist. Bronwyn graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Science, a degree that combined diagnostic caseloads, teaching and research.
Bronwyn completed American College of Veterinary Pathology board examinations in 1993 and worked at the Ministry of Agriculture's Hamilton laboratory in New Zealand. In 1995 she joined three partners in setting up New Zealand's first private specialist veterinary pathology laboratory. This successful business was sold to Gribbles Veterinary Pathology in 2003 and Bronwyn continues to work with the Gribbles group in a part time capacity.
Bronwyn's prime interest is dermatopathology. Her personal interest is travel.
